ALEXANDER GAVRYLYUK, piano, Ukraine
Born in 1984, Alexander Gavrylyuk began his piano studies at the age of seven and gave his first concerto performance when he was nine years old. He won the First prize and Gold Medal at the Horowitz International Piano Competition in 1999, and after that the First Prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan (in 2000) where the Japanese press lauded him as the “most talented 16 years old pianist of the second half of the 20th century”. In 2005, he took both the prestigious Gold Medal and the award for the Best Performance of a Classical Concerto at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition.
Following his debut in 2010 with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Gavrylyuk has returned to Amsterdam every year, either in recital in the Master Pianist’s Series, with this famous orchestra or as part of the Zatertaag Matinee at the Concertgebouw. He has performed with the Philharmonic Orchestras of New York, Los Angeles, Warsaw, Moscow, Israel and Rotterdam as well as the Royal Scottish National, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony, Stuttgart, Dutch and Seoul philharmonic orchestras, Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He has collaborated with conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Herbert Blomstedt, Andrey Boreyko, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Neeme Järvi, Vladimir Jurowski, Kirill Karabits, Louis Langrée, Sebastian Lang-Lessing, Gianandrea Noseda, Herbert Soudant, Markus Stenz and Osmo Vanska. Alexander has held his solo recital programmes at prestigious venues such as Wiener Musikverein, Wigmore Hall in London, Tonhalle in Zurich and Victoria Hall in Geneva.
Gavrylyuk was acclaimed by the critics for his exciting interpretations of Rachmaninov’s works. He played an entire opus of his concerts for piano and orchestra and Rhapsody on Theme of Paganini with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under the baton of Neeme Järvi (May 2013) performing the same programme at the Rachmaninov Festival of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in March 2014 under the baton of Bramwell Tovey. He regularly visits Japan and Asia, performing with orchestras such as Japan Television Symphony Orchestra and Seoul Philharmonic and he often tours playing in Suntory Hall and Tokyo Opera City. He also returns to Russia on a regular basis and has performed with the Russian National Philharmonic under Vladimir Spivakov and the Svetlanov Russian State Symphony Orchestra, as well as recitals at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and at the Kremlin.
At the age of 13, Alexander moved to Sydney where he lived until 2006. He has performed with all the main Australian orchestras including Melbourne and Sydney Symphonies, returning each year for concerts and recitals. In 2009 he made an acclaimed recording of the complete Prokofiev Concerti with Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Sydney Symphony which was recorded live at the Sydney Opera House. In addition to the Prokofiev cycle, he has made several recordings including CDs with recitals of works by Rachmaninov, Schumann, Scriabin, Mussorgsky and Prokofiev for the Piano Classics label.
The most important engagements of Alexander Gavrylyuk during the season of 2015/16 were his performances with Valery Gergiev and Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra within the Gergiev Festival, as well as those with Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Halle Orchestra and others. He played recitals in Ulster, Toulouse, Montpelier, Freiburg, Moscow, Minneapolis, New York and London. He plans to hold guest performances with Janine Jansen all over Europe. He is expected to tour Australia and New Zealand and after his participation at Nomus 2018 he will have the recital at the Festival in Miami on May 6th.
Gavrylyuk supports a number of charities including Theme and Variations Young Pianist Trust which aims to provide support and encouragement to young, aspiring Australian pianists as well as Opportunity Cambodia, which has built a residential educational facility for Cambodian children. Alexander is a Steinway Artist.

DANIEL RAISKIN, conductor, Russia
The chief guest conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra was born and grew up in St. Petersburg. He started attending music school at the age of six and later continued his education at the celebrated conservatory in his native city, where he studied violin, viola and conducting. He attended classes of Mariss Jansons, Neeme Järvi, Milan Horvat, Woldemar Nelson and Jorma Panula.
At the age of twenty, Daniel Raiskin left the Soviet Union to continue his studies in Amsterdam and Freiburg and very soon he became popular as one of the leading European violists, equally as a soloist and as chamber musician. He decided early to gradually change his focus and turn towards the career of a conductor supported by an exceptional pedagogue Lev Savich. Soon a young artist started being acclaimed as one of the most versatile maestros of his generation.
Cultivating a broad repertoire, Raiskin often looks beyond the mainstream in his strikingly conceived programmes.
Daniel Raiskin was Chief Conductor of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie in Koblenz from 2005 to 2016 and held the same title with the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra in the Polish city of Lódz from 2008 to 2015. Among Raiskin’s recent engagements during the season of 2014/15 we can single out his premiere performances with Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia in Madrid, Russian State Symphony Orchestra (former Svetlanov Orchestra) in Moscow, Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Württembergische Philharmonie, Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, Madrid Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Jenaer Philharmonie, National Symphony Orchestra of Lithuania, Mariinsky Orchestra, RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife, Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra Durban, Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, and later on with the Belgian National and Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra.
Among the major soloists with whom Daniel Raiskin has appeared are Martin Fröst, Alban Gerhardt, Natalia Gutman, Petr Jablonsky, Janine Jansen, Kari Kriikku, Lang Lang, Francois Leleux, Alexei Lubimov, Mischa Maisky, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Midori, Shlomo Mintz, Daniel Müller-Schott, Steven Osborne, Enrico Pace, Ivo Pogorelić, Julian Rachlin, Vadim Repin, Benjamin Schmid, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Julian Steckel and Alexei Volodin.
Recent recordings include the entire Brahms symphonies for the label Two Pianists and Shostakovich Symphony No. 4 for the label AVI Music, both to great critical acclaim. His recording of cello concertos by Korngold, Bloch and Goldschmidt with Julian Steckel for the label AVI Music received an Echo Klassik Award in 2012.
